Where are community sessions held?
Sessions are held in local communities wherever there is a safe, suitable space. This can include community centres, libraries, event venues or commercial spaces. Each location has two areas – one set up as a work-space with desks/tables, chairs and Wi-Fi (and the essential coffee making facilities!), and the other space is set up as a play space for your little one to engage in fun, discovery-based activities.
How do I book in?
Once you’ve found suitable session times & locations, you can go ahead and join one of our membership options. Once this is received, Upswing will get in contact to confirm your start date, location, book you in and give you all of the information you need to turn up for your first day – including what to bring, information about transport and parking etc. Upon arrival at your first session, you will be asked to complete a registration form for each child with all of their relevant information.
How does a session run?
Arrive at the session start time and bring your child to the play space where you are greeted by our educators. The first time you join a session, you are asked to complete a registration form for each child. This will include any relevant medical conditions and we ask if you have any specific medical management plans, please bring them along or send us a copy. We also ask for any additional instructions such as, ‘Give bottle at 11am’ plus any info about their favourite activities or comforters. Sign your child in using the sign-in sheet and provide us with the items your child may need for the duration of the session – See ‘What do I bring to sessions?’.
You are welcome to stay with your child for a little time to settle them in.
Then, make your way to the work-space where you can briefly introduce yourself to other parents – you never know who you’ll connect with! Settle in for three distraction-free hours of productivity bliss! After three hours, make your way back to the play space and collect your child. We ask you observe the session end times so our staff can finish on time and get on with their busy day too.
We generally follow a routine for the children during the session. This includes settle in and free play, games and stories, nappy change / toileting, food breaks, gross-motor play, rest times and arts and crafts. We tailor activities to children’s interest and follow the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework.
As your child returns on a regular basis, they will get to know the educators and the other children better, and you will get to know the other parents too!
What do I bring to sessions?
For your child:
Please bring along everything your child might need for the three hours such as milk, water, bottles, bibs, food/snacks – *No nuts (including peanut butter) please, cutlery, wipes, nappies, nappy bags, spare clothes/underwear, comforter, dummy/pacifier, pram/cover etc. Note: You will be advised if your location has an outdoor play area, in which case, your child will need to bring/wear sunscreen and a hat.
We have port-a-cots if your child needs a sleep and restful areas and times throughout the sessions.
Oh, the possibilities! Bring your laptop, charger, text books, manuscript, big dreams and weekly to-do lists – whatever it is that you want to get done! We provide Wi-Fi, though if you are absolutely reliant on high-speed and high-demand Wi-Fi, we encourage you to bring your own as we can’t always guarantee its speed or reliability, and wouldn’t want to slow you down. Also, we suggest bringing some headphones in case there’s background noise and you want to get completely absorbed in your work.
We will make sure you are within reach of a power point / power board to keep you powered up. There’s also coffee making facilities to give you a constant supply of caffeine if needed!
You are welcome make calls anytime, anywhere in the building – so long as you’re respectful of others around you.
Can I visit my child during the session?
You are always welcome to sneak a peek at your child or visit for a feed or nurse. For older children, we recommend you only do so if necessary as we find children will settle well into the environment after 5-15 minutes, and find it hard to settle again if they see mummy or daddy, then they leave again.
What if my child doesn’t settle?
If your child is unable to settle after 15 minutes and it is affecting the atmosphere of the other children, we may need to ask you to collect them. We are flexible with settling them into the environment over a few weeks and work with you to make them feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. We won’t charge you if your child won’t settle into the environment.
Can I claim a rebate for using Upswing?
At this stage, the service is not an approved service (Pre-school, Long Day Care Centre etc.) and is therefore not eligible for the Child Care Rebate (CCR).
Can I change my booking?
Upswing is designed to be flexible enough for you to manage your ever-evolving, busy life as a parent. You can change your regular session location or time anytime up to 24 hours before your next booking, provided there are places available. This flexibility includes scaling up or down your membership package to increase or decrease frequency of sessions. See our Terms and Conditions for more details.
Can I add casual sessions?
Client piled on extra work? Deadlines due? Not a problem. Your membership entitles you to add a casual session anytime you need, provided there are places available. You’ll be charged at your package rate for a single session. See our Terms and Conditions for more details.
Can I get a makeup session?
Yes, we offer makeup sessions for membership packages. Just give 24 hours’ notice and you can re-schedule your session, subject to availability. See our Terms and Conditions for more details.
What if I need to cancel at the last minute?
We offer you 24 hours’ notice to reschedule your session but are unable to offer this any closer to your booking. We don’t offer refunds for sessions. See our Terms and Conditions for more details.
How do I cancel my membership?
You can cancel your membership anytime with written notice, allowing 7 days for recurring payments to cease. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to notify us of your cancellation. See our Terms and Conditions for more details.
Do you operate on holidays?
We operate during school holidays, and not public holidays. You are welcome to suspend your membership for up to 4 weeks at a time. See our Terms and Conditions for more details.
